Daily care for dry skin

Daily care:-

1. Avoid Bathing Everyday

Avoid bathing daily or at least on days when you don't work up a sweat. Soap and hot water strips your skin of it's natural protection, oil. This oil is essential to keeping your skin hydrated by helping it hold moisture. Excessive water loss will cause your skin to become rough and flaky.

If you really need to bathe every day, make sure that you only do it once. Also, you should see to it that you only use soaps with a gentle formula. Milk-based baby soaps are ideal because they are specially made for sensitive skin. Additionally, they have excellent moisturising effects. You may use stronger soaps where needed.

2. Don't Rub Your Skin

After your bath, get rid of excess water by gently patting yourself dry. A quick rub with your towel can cause additional irritation so patting dry is the recommended method. Also, it is important that not all of the water is removed because you need to leave some for your skin to absorb.

3. Moisturise Right Away

Right after patting off excess water, apply a few drops of olive oil, or your oil of choice, on your body. The purpose of this is to lock in the moisture your skin absorbed in the bath/shower. Gently massage the oil unto your skin until it is fully absorbed. You will notice that your skin will be softer and more smoother after a couple of days of regular use.

You may use other types of oils such as lavender, jasmine, rose or baby oil. If you feel a little greasy, you can remove excess oil with your towel. If you're massaging in the oil and giving your skin a few minutes to absorb it, you shouldn't have much excess oil.

4. Apply Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera is known for its natural ability to soothe inflamed and irritated skin. Additionally, it has bacteria fighting attributes that can help prevent skin infections from occurring.

If you have an aloe vera plant, you can make your own gel. All you need to do is to get the gel that can be found inside an aloe leaf and mix in some powdered Vitamin C and the contents of one gel capsule of Vitamin E. Use a blender to make sure that the ingredients are mixed thoroughly. You can keep this concoction in a clean jar and store it inside your fridge for up to a week. Apply the gel in areas that show the most signs of dryness and irritation.

5. Exfoliate Once a Week

Exfoliating your skin will allow you to get rid of dead skin cells. This will make it easier for your skin to absorb moisturisers. Also, it will decrease the amount of flaking, thus making your skin look healthier.

You can make your own scrub using items that can be found in your kitchen pantry. 1/4 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of honey, and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice is all you need. Mixed together, this amount will be enough to exfoliate your entire body.

6. Invest in a Humidifier

Dry indoor air is one of the main causes of dry skin. If you live in an area that experiences cold temperatures, invest in a humidifier. This will keep the air inside your home moist thus preventing your skin from drying out. Humidifiers can also be beneficial to your respiratory system, making breathing easier.

7. Drink Lots of Water

Keeping your body hydrated is key to keeping skin healthy! If your skin is already dry, increasing the amount of water you drink each day will help improve the look and feel of your skin. 8 glasses of water is the recommended serving for adults, though you can drink more if needed. Never allow yourself to become thirsty, as thirst is a sign of dehydration. Carrying a bottle of water with you wherever you go will ensure you'll always have water available to drink. Drinking a lot of water can do wonders for your skin, and it will also help your body get rid of toxins.

Dry skin can easily be remedied as long as you follow the right steps. If you have something to add, please let us know. We love hearing comments from our readers.
